Memories Of Murder
Film Description A exceptional film based around the hunt for Korea's first serial killer, never found to this day. Other than the victims, the killer left not a single shred of evidence. Over 3,000 suspects were interrogated and thousands of police took part in the massive investigation. Not a single person was indicted for the crimes. The film concentrates on the questions asked rather than the answers not found and is all the better for it.

Review by Barry Forshaw on 18th March 2005 Festooned with awards, this powerful and complex thriller follows two detectives as they struggle to identify the murderer of a young murder victim, only to discover that they are witnessing the first of a series of brutal killings. Further evidence of the riches to be found in Korean cinema, Joon-Ho Bong’s film is a masterfully directed serial killer tale based on a true case – Making intelligent reference to the social situation in Korea at the time – with the government too busy suppressing its citizens to put resources into a proper investigation. Review by Alex Davidson on 10th December 2004 A startling film based on a true story, that follows two policemen's attempts to track down a serial killer preying on women in South Korea. The film switches expertly from scenes of broad farce to grim horror, and although the standard set-up of an older cop's altercations with a young hotshot brought in to solve a case is hardly original, the conflict is founded in insecurity rather than mere disagreement, and opens up into a profound study of the nature of man's failings. Even the most sympathetic officers fall to corruption, while the disquieting interrogation scenes reveal a sadistic impulse that burns through the supposedly empathetic protagonists.
