Review by Ian Sommerschield on 6th May 2008 A nice collection that shows Britain in a totally different age: the absence of traffic is one of the biggest changes. 'Capital Visit' is especially fascinating, with it's views of London still with bomb sites, and some evocative scenes at Heathrow Airport.
Review by Barry Forshaw on 3rd August 2005 A truly cherishable collection of vintage British transport films from the 50s and early 60s. Whether or not you're interested in the classic age of steam, these are a truly fascinating slice of British history -- if, that is, you can put up with the arch and dated commentaries. The first of a very welcome series. View more reviews by Barry Forshaw
Review by MovieMail on 29th October 2004 Following the nationalisation of the railways in 1948, the British Transport Commission set up its own in-house film production and distribution unit. It produced hundreds of films offering information and promoting travel on Britain’s railways. Consistently winning top awards at film festivals, the films provide a wonderfully crafted visual record of 20th century life in both rural and urban Britain. The collection is a must for both the transport enthusiast and anyone who enjoys historical documentaries. View more reviews by MovieMail
