Film Description Hodges' follow-up to Get Carter sees Caine's Malta-based pulp fiction writer getting involved with a host of crooks and misfits. A commercial flop on its release, this zany comedy is well worth rediscovering.

Review by Simon Treves on 23rd September 2004 Michael Caine as unreliable narrator of his own ("Mickey King", geddit) pulp autobiography. A 90-minute in-joke with everyone involved allowed a long leash by director Mike Hodges. First hour very watchable, but it drags in the last third. Mickey Rooney hilarious (improvising?) his own death banquet. Caine as good - and dry - as ever. Set on Malta so look out for a Bogart and Lorre lookalike gag involving a maltese falcon.
