Film Description

Mel Gibson's hugely controversial film detailing the last twelve hours of Christ's life, from his betrayal at the hands of Judas to his crucifixion and resurrection. With strong performances and impressive visuals, this is an incredibly passionate and ambitious work that succeeds in re-inventing the biblical epic.

Review by Maria on 8th July 2004

This is the first film of the life of Christ which I liked.
Though people argue it does not portray his entire life and doctrine, I think that it does. In fact, during the passion, we have several glimpses of his prior life and events that marked it, in which one can hear his teachings to people and his followers, such as the apostles.
If it wasn't so, I think that the mere fact of the passion itself demonstrates clearly his principles, strength, his convictions, his selfawareness, his capacity to endure suffering, his 'resignation'.

Besides, the film faithfully follows the scriptures, because we can witness some events not directly concerning the life or the passion of Christ. The fact that the film language is both Aramaic and latin gives it a great sense of realism.

Jim Caviezel is great, and Mel Gibson even better as a director. He had already shown us his hability as director in 'William Wallace', and this film confirms it. Great directing, photography, scenario, wardrobe.

Don't miss it, but one must be prepared fot the violence of the passion itself, though I think the real passion should have been something like that. I also think that Gibson does not exploit the suffering, he merely portrays it.

Article - "The Passion of The Christ" by Alex Davidson
Wednesday 4th August 2004

Mel Gibson's The Passion of The Christ must be the most controversial film in living memory, yet the furore that surrounded the movie risks eclipsing the very many merits of the work. Gibson completely re-invents the biblical epic with his extraordinary visio...  View article in full

Article - "Pier Paolo Pasolini" by Pasquale Iannone
Monday 2nd April 2007

The Gramscian Marxist poet, novelist and filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975) is often described as a King Midas figure because of the skillful dexterity with which he shifted from one form of artistic expression to another. A vital, polemical presence in the cu...  View article in full
