Film Description

Von Trier's powerfully bleak vision of small-town America has the strength of parable. The director is playful as well though, with storytelling conventions applied to the tale of Grace, who arrives in a small Rocky Mountains community in Depression-era USA. They agree to hide her in return for performing certain duties. The duties however, get ever more demanding.
