Review by Barry Forshaw on 25th March 2004

A hot summer in the country. For a teenager like David he finds it all rather tedious, especially since he’s staying on his uncle’s farm. His music and his imagination keep him going, until he joins in with his uncle’s friends in their revelries. Under their encouragement, he gets drunk for the first time. The series of events that follow prove to be a brutal and tragic initiation into manhood. A spellbinding award-winner from first-time director Damien Odoul. A powerful example of modern French cinema, as intoxicating as the wine itself.
