Review by Andy Mckay on 14th April 2004

Bizarre period piece from Truffaut that is very long, very funny and has no idea what type of movie it wants to be.
Beginning as a romance, the film soon morphs into a thriller with a large ammount of plot twists. Belmondo and Deneuve are both superb, if a little "going through the motions", their on-screen chemistry is one reason to stay with this one. It will probably tease and frustrate you, but you will be impressed by the film's innate oddness!
