Review by Robin Tudge on 6th September 2004

This classic seventies disaster B-movie has an all star cast, including Richard Widmark and Henry Fonda, battling against the Bees, who've "always been our friends" according to a shocked and disillusioned Michael Caine.

The story has all the right ingredients, an eponymous battle of man vs nature mixed in with a battle of strategies with science vs blunt military power, and the all-American fear of 'the invader' coasting along over an unsubtly racist sub-text. All that, with a litany of tatty special effects and set-tos of bees vs everybody makes for what I consider to be a comedy of epic proportions, with a billing of actors to die for going through the highly hammy motions of earning beer money for hanging out with Hollywood's finest.
