Gina McKee, Christopher Eccleston, Daniel Craig, and Mark Strong, play Mary Soulsby, Nicky Hutchinson, Geordie Peacock and Tosker Cox respectively. The epic story spans for a heart-rending, emotional but above all intelligent thirty-one years, and sees the friends endure divorce, life in an early high-rise development, anarchy, Alzheimer's disease, affairs, stock market crashes, changes in fortunes, freedom and political leanings and be moved by birth, death, success, failure and love.

The series is as compelling as when it was first screened on television in 1993, and the four disc boxed set will make a wonderful Christmas present.
