Filmed in the fifties, when the West coast of Scotland was supplied with goods mainly by sea, the story revolves around the hilarious antics of the crew of a Clyde Puffer "The Maggie".
In need of a cargo, the crew of the puffer take their boat to Glasgow. After a fruitless search a chance meeting and misunderstanding in the Shipping Agent's Office result in a cargo for "The Maggie".
Captain McTaggart and his crew, of three, then set off from Glasgow to deliver the cargo to an island off the West Coast of Scotland. Their voyage is determined by various obstacles, some navigational, some not. During the trip Mr. McGregor (the Engineer), Hamish (the Mate) and Dougie "The wee boy" add their own character to the story.
The scenes are shot on location on the beautiful West coast of Scotland and have hardly changed in 50 years. Shot in black and white, the film portrays a generation and a way of life now long gone.
This is a classic film.
