Review by David Tallerman on 26th February 2004

Miyazaki’s medieval epic is the tale of Ashitaka, a young warrior who finds himself drawn into the midst of a conflict between human progress and nature, with on the one side Lady Eboshi, the leader of Iron Town, and on the other Mononoke, a young girl raised by wolves. A masterpiece in its own right, Princess Mononoke is also surely the best adaptation of a Japanese film for a western audience ever, with a script translation by author Neil (American Gods) Gaiman and a superb voice-cast including Claire Danes, Billy Bob Thornton and Billy Crudup.
