The series, which was directed by Eastender's creator Julia Smith, has long been rumoured to have been partly or completely erased by the BBC and it was widely believed that no full copy existed. Even Actress Jenny Agutter, starring here in the earliest of her three appearances in successive adaptations of the well-loved story, only had a tape of one episode and believed the rest had been erased.

The story, set in the Edwardian era, revolves around three young children's adventures on a local railway as they wait for their father to return from some mysterious fate. It was filmed on the Keighley and Worth Railway, with authentic steam locomotives, making it as much a favourite amongst steam enthusiasts as it is with families. Parents who remember watching the series as children when first broadcast in the sixties will surely delight in viewing it again and rediscovering it with their own children.
