Film Description

Wendy Kroy is not who she seems. Hitting town and knocking the male population for six, she twists Mike around her little finger. Little does he know, she has a very colourful past in tow. Wowing critics and audiences when it hit town, this is a stylish, extremely postmodern, take on the film noir which, like its anti-heroine, never does what a man expects.

As if we weren’t already in Network’s debt, the company throws our way a handsome two-disc special edition of one of most accomplished of modern-day films noir, with Linda Fiorentino scorchingly redefining the femme fatale. A shame her subsequent career has not matched the promise of this movie.

Article - "Howard Hawks" by Richard Armstrong
Monday 23rd September 2002

In Hollywood in the early-40s it was unusual for screenwriters to graduate to the director’s chair. Even more unusual was the sight of a screenwriter sitting on set while the director directed, even when the screenwriter had written the script. In 1941 Billy Wilder s...  View article in full
