Review by Mr D M Hobbs on 27th March 2006

The good part of this film was the beautiful Julia Ormond until she started with her vacuous grin. Richard Harris was an old man playing an old man…with his mouth open.
Oleg Menshikov seemed to equate staring with acting.
I watched the whole 169 minutes of this film hoping it could only get better but it did not. It was just full of cliched stereotypes.

A very disappointing film, not a bit like the blurb.

Review by Gino Covali on 15th May 2006

Splendid! A perfect acting compensates fully for a bit predictable plotline (there is nothing new under the moon, isnt'it?). Stanislavsky would be proud certainly of it. Great pictures of Russia, wonderful lovestory. Highly recommended, to sum up.
