The monumental, legendary epic with legendary subject: driven, egotistical, sun-scorched redeemer.Welsh hero, Irish, Egyptian and Mexican stars, Jordanian setting, American funding, French score, English director and Sharif conjured from the vast desert = the great British film. J.D. Voted 6th in Time Outs all-time poll, and 3rd by B.F.I.

Lawrence of Arabia is a film where everything comes together and works. The
magnificent photography captures the sheer physical presence of the desert
and then lays superb, sweeping action on top of it, complemented perfectly
by Maurice Jarre's music. Alec Guinness, Omar Sharif and Anthony Quinn act
magnificently and look as though they belong in the desert and the arid
cities but Peter O'Toole bestrides the film and gives the performance of his
career. His tormented Lawrence brings a depth of character and richness
rarely seen in epics. Three hours long and never a flagging moment, Lawrence
is a genuine contender for the top ten films of all time.

Oscars Winners - Great films, up to 70% off by MovieMail

This year, MovieMail has decided to dispense with the standard list of award-winners, and lift the curtain on some of the lesser-known categories in which many rare and exciting films reside.
The following movies were singled out for important aspects of the film-making craft and, we think, are the titles which glister brightest in Uncle Oscar's auric eye.
