Review by anon on 5th March 2001 Splendid epic of pride and endurance, a colourful picture of the traditional annual migration of Tibetan yak herdsmen, set in the bleak but majestic scenery of the Himalaya. "Stunning photography - visual splendour and supremely naturalistic performances." Empire
Review by John Davies on 1st March 2001 Following the death of its leader, when faced with a daunting mountain trek to sell salt, a Nepalese tribe splits into two rival yak caravans. Reflecting on family ties, inter-generational tension and traditional spiritual love, "Himalaya" offers valuable moral and cultural insights alongside breathtaking cinematography of stupendous, vertiginous vistas. The country's first to be Oscar-nominated, it is a film of immense grandeur and nobility. Highly recommended.

Review by Dave Butcher on 19th October 2001 The true stars of this masterpiece are the yaks as they cross the awe inspiring landscape of the barran mountenous horrizons. Set in the Himmalayas, at times the stupendous camera work gives the audience vertigo. I loved it.A stimulating experience not to be missed. View more reviews by Dave Butcher
