Film Description

In 1947 drama When the Bough Breaks, Patricia Roc stars as a young working mother who is nursing her newborn baby in a London maternity hospital when a police inspector informs her that her husband has been arrested as a bigamist. Despite living in a society that frowns upon single mothers, Lily decides to bring up her son Jimmy single-handedly. Suffering from ill health, however, she is forced to leave Jimmy in the care of a nursery worker (Rosamund John) and her husband (Patrick Holt). Although she later recovers, Lily decides it best to let Jimmy stay with the Normans. She falls in love with and weds shop owner Bill Collins (Bill Owen) but, when it becomes apparent she can't move on without Jimmy, the couple go to try and claim him back.
