Film Description

A samurai can no longer support his family on his low wages for the small-town clan for whom he works, so he leaves for the city in search of higher wages. Told in retrospective by his grandson and a fellow samurai, this is a stylish, evocative look at the last days of a dying breed of men who hold honour above all else.

This much-acclaimed martial arts epic comes garlanded with praise – all of it justified. Takita has to work within well-defined grooves, but is adroit as finding fresh... more >
