Every Man for himself and God against All - Kaspar Hauser, that is the original German title for The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, which may strike one as utterly bizarre. Nevertheless the film tells an authentic story derived from 19th-century documents. In 1829 a young man appears from nowhere in the town of Nürnberg, barely able to speak or walk. A morbid curiosity befalls the townsfolk, and Kaspar is taken in by a wealthier household to learn social etiquette, reading and writing. But in his great innocence Kaspar provokes disdain from the community whose hypocrisy he exposes. Unwitting and with the integrity of a saint, The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser is given a marvellous performance by Bruno S as the strange discovery who unsettles an established way of life. < less
