Film DescriptionThe painter J.M.W. Turner is idely recognised as England's greatest painter and the Tate has the world's finest collection of his work. Turner at Tate explores many of his best-known canvases along with sketches and watercolours, all newly-filmed in HDTV from the originals. The film provides an overview of Turner's life as well as critical approaches to his art. Also included are ten short films, each of which considers in detail a major work, including Fishermen at Sea, The Decline of the Carthaginian Empire, The Sun of Venice going to sea and Northern Castle, Sunrise.
