Three Colours Red DVD, 1994

Immaculately played by an outstanding cast, and critically acclaimed as the most powerful film in the Three Colours trilogy. 'Red' looks at the close relationship which develops between a young model and an elderly judge. As ever with Kieslowski we see lots of humanity and and tons of technique but Red transcends all of its elements to become a truly magnificent artistic achievement. A must see for anyone anywhere. -AH

This French film, by the legendary veteran Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski, is immaculately played by an outstanding cast. With an original and haunting soundtrack by Preisner, it is the most powerful film in the Three Colours trilogy, exploring the French revolutionary ideals of Freedom, Equality, and Fraternity. "Red" looks at the close relationship that develops between a young model (Irene Jacob) and an elderly judge (Jean-Louis Trintignant), after she rescues his dog from a car accident. As ever with Kieslowski, this film is deeply humane and laden with cinematic technique, yet transcends all of its elements to become a truly magnificent artistic achievement. A must see. < less
