The Thin Red Line, a WWII story of the fierce conflict in an American Army rifle company during the battle of Guadalcanal, was Terrence Malick's first film for twenty years.
As US soldiers land on the island of Guadalcanal, hoping to capture it from the Japanese, the job of venturing into the jungle falls to the 'C for Charlie' company and the troops are faced by both the enemy and struggles within their own camp. The film is told with graphic and merciless fidelity from the moment of landing, through months of exhausting effort to try and take the Japanese stronghold on a hill, to the departure of the survivors. Innocent men are transformed by the savagery of war and find only a thin line separates the sane and the insane.

Have some patience, leave your blood thirst at the door and watch a film that elevates the war genre and filmmakeing into the realm only touched by the likes of Apacolypse Now, Full Metal Jacket.
