Film Description

This tale of doomed, forbidden love is a romantic re-working of a Thomas Hardy's short story 'The Melancholy Hussar'. Deserting German hussar, Matthaus Singer (Jean-Marc Barr) falls madly in love with solicitor's daughter Frances Groves (Emma Fielding), and she is torn between duty - her father would prefer her to marry the weasly suitor Humphrey - and her desire. Passion flows but will forces of convention tear the lovers apart?
