Ballet impresario Boris Lermontov (Anton Walbrook) hires up-and-coming ballerina Victoria Page (Moira Shearer) and talented young composer Julian Craster (Marius Goring) to work with him on a new ballet, an adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story 'The Red Shoes'. The show is a great success and Victoria and Julian fall in love; but Boris is jealous and makes moves to spoil their happiness.

The quality of the film is excellent and I enjoyed it very much. However there are two glaring errors on the bonus disc. The photographs and biographies of Robert Helpmann and Leonide Massine have been transposed. How could anyone make such a mistake?
Also, one of the speakers refers to Ninette de Valois appearing in the film. Not so, as it was Marie Rambert who appears in the scene in the Mercury theatre. < less
