Film Description

A low-key, modern-day parable of good and evil and a satire of post-Soviet business, The Light Thief sees a humble village electrician devoting his compassion and ingenuity to destitute neighbours in a wind-swept valley of Kyrgyzstan.

Svet-Ake (Arym Kubat) uses his electrical know-how to bring light to his poverty-stricken village, tapping into a nearby power grid to ensure an ongoing supply and helping poor pensioners by fiddling their electricity meters. However, when his schemes are discovered by the authorities, he is fired from his job and is forced to examine the ambiguous morality of his actions.
