Film Description
A stylish, bleak spaghetti western that replaces the expected sunbleached desert locations of the genre with the snow-bound mountains of Utah. Features a typically evocative Morricone score. The alternative happy ending never got used.
A group of mercenary bounty killers led by the brutal Loco (Klaus Kinski) is in pursuit of a band of outlaws who have escaped and are hiding out in the hills. After they remorselessly kill an innocent man who happens to cross their bloody path, the man's widow, Pauline calls upon much-feared gunslinger 'Silence' (Jean-Louis Trintignant) - so called because he has been mute since his throat was cut as a child - to seek revenge. Caught between the innocent inhabitants of the local community and the corrupt bounty hunters, Silence decides to mete out his own brand of justice...
