MovieMail's ReviewThe Fugitive, broadcast for four seasons on ABC-TV from 1963 to 1967, is on the run again. Dr. Richard Kimble, “an innocent victim of blind justice,” falsely convicted for the murder of his wife, escapes en route to his execution when a train wreck frees him to search for the elusive one-armed man who committed the crime, while pursued by Lt. Philip Gerard, the police lieutenant obsessed with his capture. The Hitchcockian overtones are unmistakable, as an innocent man caught in the middle chases the real perpetrator while hunted by the police. This modern reworking of Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables—even the name Gerard evokes that of Inspector Javert—continues to enthrall because of its gritty, noir-like cinematography, first-rate scripts, haunting score, and affecting performances. Starring David Janssen in a sympathetic, understated performance as Kimble, and Barry Morse in an impressive portrayal as the relentless Gerard, The Fugitive continues to be rated one of the most popular drama series in television history. It now makes its DVD debut in a set featuring the first fifteen episodes of Season One.
