Rohmer is one of France’s most acclaimed directors, and this welcome package showcases eight of his key films, including all six of his Comedies and Proverbs. The Rohmer style is very different to that of his contemporaries, Godard, Chabrol and Truffaut, and it could be argued that Rohmer maintained the ideals of the French New Wave movement more faithfully. His sardonic, witty style is highly distinctive, and the films here (including The Aviator's Wife, Pauline at the Beach, Full Moon in Paris,
The Green Ray and Love in the Afternoon) display those qualities in full.
