In his later career, Donald Sinden became famous as a much-loved character actor, but this collection reveals the theatrically-trained actor at the height of his film career in the in the 1950s and early 60s, a period where he was able to bring his inimitable presence and unmistakable voice to a series of leading roles.

The set includes the powerful WWII drama, Above us the Waves (1953) also starring John Mills, and the smog-filled crime thriller Tiger in the Smoke (1956), as well as cheerful 50s comedy fare A Day to Remember (1953), and An Alligator Named Daisy (1955), opposite Diana Dors.

Made during the boom years of post-war British cinema, Sinden’s co-stars include Stanley Holloway, Michael Hordern, Bernard Miles and Donald Pleasence.

Having established himself as a leading Shakespearean actor, Sinden would later focus on his theatre work, as well as long-running appearances in TV comedies Never the Twain and Two's Company (as well as a more recent recurring role in the BBC’s Judge John Deed).
