The Day The Earth Stood Still (Wise, 1951) DVD, 1951Availability Delivery Returns Policy
Film DescriptionA non-threatening alien, Klaatu, comes to Earth in 1951 with a message of peace, but is - depressingly, if unsurprisingly - shot and wounded by nervous troops. His ten-foot robot, Gort, immediately renders all Earth weapons useless while the alien delivers an ultimatum to the world: stop fighting or be destroyed. An effective score from Bernard Herrmann reinforces the atmosphere.

Mrs P Davies on 23rd March 2001 Good strong story line - no frills social satire as relevant today as it was in the 1950s. more >
