Film Description
Celebrating the work of Harry Lee and Edward Danziger at the famous New Elstree Studios, the Danziger Collection features five of the classic films produced at Elstree and a documentary, entitled Danziger Studios The Untold Elstree Story, profiling the history of the world famous studio.
Contains the films The Tell-Tale Heart, Part-Time Wife, The Battleaxe (Grayson, 1962), Fate Takes a Hand (Varnel, 1962) and Two Wives at One Wedding (Tully, 1961).
The Tell-Tale Heart: Horror tale inspired by the classic Edgar Allan Poe story, in which a writer fantasizes murdering his friend over a beautiful woman, and then hearing the dead man's heart continuing to beat.
Part-Time Wife: When a good-buddy needs an ‘instant wife’ to impress a moneyed uncle, an insurance salesman is only too happy to loan out his wife in this British farce. Unfortunately for the friends, they are not the only two deceivers in the game.
The Battleaxe: A British comedy starring Francis Matthews and Jill Ireland as an engaged couple. Matthews' and Ireland's pre-connubial bliss is shattered by the future bride's domineering mother. Unable to withstand this wicked witch of the Northlands, Matthews tries to weasel out of the marriage by suing Ireland for breach of promise--the broken promise being that momma would stop meddling.
Fate Takes a Hand: One solitary incident leads to ramifications for several different people, whose triumphs or travails are dealt with individually. In this instance, the catalyst is a mailbag, which pops up after a 15-year disappearance. The letters are finally mailed, with a variety of results for five of the mail-ees.
Two Wives at One Wedding: In this crime drama, a prominent doctor marries a wealthy young woman. Their happiness is marred when a French woman begins blackmailing him with her claims that they are still married. Her actions cause an investigation and it is revealed that he'd been involved in the underground. As a result, his life is nearly destroyed.
