Film Description
Michael Sheen stars in this dramatisation of The Damned United, the novel by David Peace.
Brian Clough was the coach of Leeds United for a tempestuous 44-day stint. From the outset, Clough does little to disguise his contempt for the club, its players, and former club manager Don Revie (Colm Meaney). As the relationship between players and manager deteriorates, so do the team's performances on the pitch. Clough was sacked but that was only half the story. Timothy Spall and Jim Broadbent co-star.
Peter Morgan (writer of The Queen and Frost/Nixon) wrote the screenplay. "It deals with themes I love" he said, "Alcoholism and self-destruction and psychotic male competitiveness and treachery."
