Film Description

A serene and melancholy love story between a German man and a Polish woman, The Call of the Toad sees a couple caught up in the old German-Polish schism and advent of modern capitalism in Poland as they set up a foundation for people to be buried in their hometowns of Gdansk and Vilnius in reconciliation cemeteries. But their good intentions and idealistic hopes for international understanding are corrupted when the money starts to roll in. Based on the novel by Gunter Grass.
