Film Description
David Lean's multiple Oscar-winning war film, The Bridge on the River Kwai is based on the novel by Pierre Boulle and finds a group of British PoWs forced to build a bridge in Burma for the Japanese and which might eventually be used to assist Japanese troop movements.
Led by Colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness) they not only build the bridge but organise the whole building programme and are proud of the final result. However, unknown to the PoWs, a commando team has been given a mission to destroy it. Guinness is at his best as the single-minded Colonel slowly driven mad.
