Film Description
The complete, remastered fourth series of the cult 60s TV series The Avengers arrives with Diana Rigg's Emma Peel taking the place of Cathy Gale.
Originally broadcast in 1965-66, this series marks the beginning of what many consider to be the show's best period as it took a new direction, moving from studio-bound sets to location shots and also shifting to shooting on 35mm film.
The series also capitalised on Rigg and McNee's relationship, with the scripts becoming notably lighter-hearted, while five of series 4's shows were not initially broadcast in the US, being deemed too suggestive.
These include A Touch of Brimstone, in which Rigg dresses as the 'Queen of Sin', a dominatrix in spiked dog collar, whalebone corset and laced boots (a costume Rigg designed herself). Unsurprisingly, this was the most watched The Avengers episode on its original showing.
