Film Description

A TV adaptation of two of Arthur Ransome's classic children's books. I thoroughly enjoyed this adaptation of Arthur Ransome's classic "Coot Club" and "The Big Six." While not as good as reading the actual books (as is true with most adaptations) it was still good fun to sit down and watch. It sticks pretty well to the books, not adding anything extra in, as so many adaptations do, but not leaving much out. Tom Dudgeon's baby sibling is left out, but is not detrimental to the performance. The hullaballoos are excellent, nasty and obnoxious to the last. The children are just right, with Dot being as dreamy as can be, and Dick with his round glasses looking scinetific, and the Death and Glories are exactly as one might imagine. A highly enjoyable couple of hours. < less
