Film Description
Made on location in Australia and Elstree, this drama about an escaped convict making a last stand on a tiny island in Sydney Harbour was Ealing Studio's final feature.
Aldo Ray plays the man on the run who sets out to win a new trial and prove his innocence. His plans to win a fresh trial are at first non-violent, but when police discover he is hiding on Pinchgut, a tiny Island fortress in Sydney harbour, snipers wound his brother and he becomes desperate, threatening to blow up the city's waterfront unless the authorities grant accede to his demands.

The last film ever made by Ealing Studios is a solid thriller about a man on the run, determined to win a new trial and to prove his innocence by extreme measures: holding Sydney's two million inhabitants to ransom - at the point of a cannon trained on a ship loaded with high explosives. Aldo Ray delivers a powerful performance but it's a strongly cast ensemble piece - and by no means a typical Ealing product. < less
