Film Description

After scientist Sylvie (Sandrine Bonnaire) discovers her brother Paul (Gregoire Colin) trying to steal a gun from her lab, he explains that he wishes to avenge the death of their father. Paul believes that he was killed by Walser (Jerzy Radziwilowicz), a family friend who now owns their father's company. Sylvie sets out to kill Walser herself, but shoots his mistress by mistake. Now herself a murderer, Sylvie discovers further disturbing secrets from her family's past.

This is Rivette at his best in this complex, compelling drama of secrets from the past, imprisoning those who uncover them, leading to deception, revenge, and murder. A gothic spiderweb of events, hypnotically woven. Bonnaire is riveting.
