Film Description

A collection of vintage Scottish entertainment. The footage features Sir Harry Lauder performing songs such as 'I Love a Lassie' and 'Roamin' in the Gloamin', The Glasgow Orpheus Choir in a 1951 concert and Rikki Fulton starring in silent comedies 'Emma's Dilemma' and 'Butterfingers', as well as historical documentaries 'The Fiddlers of James Bay' (1980) and 'You Take the High Road'.

Sir Harry Lauder Sings World Famous Songs (1931): Sir Harry Lauder on stage singing several of his most popular songs, including 'Keep Right on to the end of the Road'.

The Glasgow Orpheus Choir (1951): Sir Hugh Roberton conducts the Glasgow Orpheus Choir in their only screen concert as they sing various Scottish songs.

Butterfingers (1950s): Rikki Fulton and Kenneth McKellar in a silent comedy about the misdemeanors of a couple of Glaswegian ne'er-do-wells.

You Take the High Road (1950s): The fishing and farming villages of the East coast and the scenery of the West coast are the setting for traditional tunes.

Emma's Dilemma (1950s): A romantic comedy made by Rikki Fulton in the style of 1920s silent films with inter-titles. Rikki plays all the parts.

The Fiddlers of James Bay (1980): From the National Film Board of Canada. The Cree of Northern Quebec learned fiddling from Orkney traders 300 years ago.
