Film Description
Brigitte Bardot stars in Love on a Pillow, a tale of twisted love directed by Roger Vadim.
Arriving in Dijon to tend to the affairs of her recently deceased aunt, Parisien Geneviève Le Theil (Bardot) enters the wrong hotel room and discovers a would-be suicide who has just taken an overdose. After recovering, the penniless and alcoholic loner seduces Geneviève, eventually convincing her to take him back to Paris with her. But over the coming months as their relationship intensifies, Renaud continuously maltreats Geneviève, attempting to degrade her in any way possible, while she, out of love, acquiesces - but for how long?

The English title may be catchpenny, but this is intriguing excavation from a lost era. Brigitte Bardot is a well-brought-up girl from an upper class family who encounters an unstable young man, Renaud (Robert Hossein), who has tried to commit suicide in her hotel room. She embarks upon a self-destructive love affair. Unusual fare, more challenging than usual for Bardot as an actress (although semi-nudity is inevitably on offer), but Bardot is no Jeanne Moreau. Nevertheless, fascinating fare. < less
