Film DescriptionCited by Kazan as a personal favourite, Panic in the Streets is a deliciously dark film and influential film noir classic shot entirely on location and with conventions of documentary filmmaking to lend the film a gritty realism. When the victim of a gangland killing is found to have a pneumonic plague, a medical officer (Richard Widmark) forms an alliance with a by-the-book police chief to hunt down and exterminate the infected murderers before the epidemic spreads through the city.
