Aka Nathalie X. An understated tale of sexual intrigue and manipulation in which gynaecologist Ardant pays sex-club hostess Beart (as Nathalie) to have an affair with her errant husband Depardieu and then recount the experiences to her afterwards. She begins to lose control over Nathalie's actions however and begins to wonder who is deceiving whom.

A well acted tale of lust and deceit but you will probably guess the plotline quite early on. The central trio of Beart, Ardant and Depardieu all provide solid dependable performances, even if they aren't required to stretch themselves too much. The film should have perhaps made more of the friendship that began to flower between the Ardant and Beart characters as this would have helped provide more of an emotional punch at the end. Nathalie is not an important work, but is watchable, stylish and well made. < less
