Film Description
Contains four films from one of the most talented and influential of actors: The Wild One (Benedek, 1953), On The Waterfront (Kazan, 1954), The Ugly American (Englund, 1963) and The Appaloosa (Furie, 1966).
The Wild One: Brando plays Johnny, the leader of a vicious biker gang that involves a small, sleepy California town. The leather-jacketed young biker seems hell-bent on destruction until he falls for Kathie (Mary Murphy), a 'good-girl' whose father happens to be a cop. Unfortunately for Johnny, his one shot at redemption is threatened by a psychotic rival, Chino (Lee Marivn) plus the hostility and prejudice of the townspeople. All their smouldering passions explode in an electrifying climax. A seminal performance by Brando in an angry critique of smug 1950s consumerist morality. 'What are you rebelling against?' he is asked. 'What've you got?' he replies. And Lee Marvin was seldom meaner. Based on the story 'The Cyclists' Raid' by Frank Rodney.
On The Waterfront: Marlon Brando is the longshoreman who finds himself increasingly isolated when he challenges the might and power of the tough New York City dockers' Union. Rod Steiger is his elder brother, torn between loyalty to union and love of family. Lee J. Cobb is the powerful union boss, while Eva Marie Saint is the girl with whom Brando falls in love. The film won eight Oscars, including Best Actor for method man Brando.
The Ugly American: Brando plays Harrison MacWhite, newly appointed ambassador to the South East Asian country of Sarkhan, who discovers a country in turmoil, and who can't help getting involved in the nation's incendiary politics, where his naivete and cockiness only make things worse.
The Appaloosa: Brando plays Matt Fletcher, a Mexican-American buffalo hunter whos constantly harassed and humiliated by a bandit general. When the bandit steals his horse - the appaloosa of the title - he sets out to even the scores.
