Film Description
Natalie Portman made her screen debut as 12 year-old Mathilda, who, on finding that her dysfunctional family has been slaughtered by Gary Oldman's psychotic, drug dealing police officer, teams up with her mysterious, solitary neighbour Leon (Jean Reno), a professional assassin. And while Mathilda begins to teach him how to live, Leon begins to teach her how to kill.
This Director's Cut adds 24 minutes of material removed from the original release that concentrates on the relationship between Mathilda and Leon.

This is one of the most thrilling yet disturbing films I have ever seen. The events portrayed lead to an inexorable conclusion which, at the same time, both involves and troubles the viewer. There is an uneasy pact created by the director and the assembled cast which draws the viewer into the nefarious world of the both putative antagonist and protagonist. An uneasy relationship is cultivated which leads one to dwell upon what is unseen, unsaid, as well as what is portrayed. Disturbing, but involving. Thrilling yet guilt inducing. A minor masterpiece.
