Film Description
A film that tells two stories - of mysterious divorcee Nora and her ex-husband, neurotic violinist Ismael. Featuring a rich cast of supporting actors, the film is unafraid to follow its own light and moves from absurd to serious, from stage comedy to melodrama.

Kings and Queen was a film I was long looking forward too, Desplechlin's Ma Vie Sexuelle being one of my favourite movies. The wait was more than worth it. This is a beautiful, totally enthralling film and it stayed with me for days afterwards. Rather than outline the plot, I would prefer to take the opportunity to urge anyone interested to just watch the film. It has humour and pathos in spades and the level of care taken in shooting (his own story, by the way) by Desplechin is exemplary. As ever, Mathieu Almaric and Emmanuelle Devos are nothing short of exceptional in challenging roles and there is a wonderfully played cameo by Catherine Deneuve. My only wish is that there were more films like this out there. Watching Kings and Queen was truly an experience - my involvement was total. Among the best films ever. < less
