MovieMail's ReviewIn addition to À bout de souffle – now pushing fifty and still brimming over with attitude and ideas – this Godard collection also includes Alphaville, his highly enjoyable pop art synthesis of sci-fi, satire and noir, in which inter-galactic agent Lemmy Caution tries to outwit the supercomputer Alpha 60. There’s also Alphaville's first cousin, Made in U.S.A., whose bright colours and 'Scope photography belie its impenetrable noir-ish plot and melancholy tone. The set also sees the first UK DVD release of Passion, Godard's 1982 reflection on not making a film, worker/employer relationships, art history and a lot more besides, and starring (if that's the right word) Michel Piccoli, Hanna Schygulla and Isabelle Huppert. A bonus disc also features a number of short films about and with Godard, most notably The Dinosaur & the Baby, his hour-long interview with Fritz Lang that featured in the 1967 Cinéastes de notre temps series.
