Hobson's Choice has to be one of the best-ever British film comedies. All the characters are beautifully observed, with John Mills proving, as ever, his amazing versatility. All three lead actors, Charles Laughton, Brenda De Banzie, and Mills, fit their parts like a glove, with no attempt to outplay each other. Harold Brighouse's story gives form, humour, and a moral message. If only all cinema could achieve this level of perfection.
