An intense and enthralling portrait of a driven man obsessed with capturing a shipping route on the Amazon, even though it means hauling a boat over a mountain through hostile tribal territory and defeating seemingly impossible obstacles. The boat was, of course, hauled over the mountain for real in the making of the film - Herzog's most notorious filming feat.

A wonderful film. The main character is a dreamer driven to bring opera to the Amazon jungle. Fantastic scenery & no special effects make this a visual treat. The raw power of nature is mindboggling. Proves that although a failure at his mad schemes, {making ice in the jungle & a trans andean railway}! He does bring the Opera to the jungle in the end, whilest blowing his Girlfriend's money in the process! Worth watching for Klaus Kinski alone! < less
