Film DescriptionNominated for the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in 1952, Encore consists of three engaging portrayals of everyday life that rise above the ordinary through the writing talent of W. Somerset Maugham. The stories featured are The Ant and The Grasshopper (dir: Pat Jackson), which tells the story of a freeloading workshy fop who gets one over on his dictatorial brother, Winter Cruise (dir: Anthony Pelissier), in whch the incessant chatter of a middle aged spinster on a cruise ship to Jamaica gets on everyone's nerves, and Gigolo and Gigolette (dir: Harold French), in which a woman's high-dive act is threatened when her husband starts thinking about money.
