Screenwriter and director Brian Clemens (The Avengers, Thriller) helmed this interesting Hammer Studios twist on a vampire film and which saw Horst Janson play a swashbuckling super hero vampire hunter.

Master swordsman Kronos finds himself in a central European village where the local young women have had their youth drained from them by a vampire's kiss. Together with his hunchbacked assistant Grost (John Cater), he goes in search of the vampire and ends up meeting an aged and sick Lady Durward (Wanda Ventham). Kronos realises he must devise a cunning plan to expose the murderer and decides to use the beautiful gypsy girl Carla (Caroline Munro) as bait.

As more ands more Hammer product finally makes its way into DVD, it becomes easier to assess the various changes of direction the company initiated. Brian Clemens, writer of The Avengers, was drafted in for this pre-Buffy tongue-in-cheek vampire outing with the delectable Caroline Munro joining the stolid Horst Janson in colourful derring-do. < less
